The Central European Academy traditionally brought together experts from across the region for the Annual Scientific Conference, held in Budapest from October 2–3, 2025, for the fourth consecutive time.
Among the participants were our colleagues Milica Pešterić, partner and Tina Petrić, associate, who presented their work on the first day of the conference on the topic “Analysis of Serbia’s Legal Framework for Nuclear Facility Decommissioning.”
This year’s conference gathered over 200 participants from 23 countries and featured 24 panels, providing a platform for the exchange of ideas, regulatory initiatives, and best practices in law and energy, further strengthening legal dialogue across Central Europe.
In their paper, Milica and Tina analysed the readiness of Serbian institutions to support the nuclear decommissioning process, highlighting key aspects – from governance structures and regulatory capacities to inter-institutional coordination within the energy sector.
As Serbia advances in aligning with international safety standards and sustainable energy goals, particular attention was given to institutions such as SRBATOM, the Vinča Institute of Nuclear Sciences, and other relevant regulatory and environmental bodies.
Through a comparative analysis, the paper identifies areas requiring additional investment, technical expertise, and greater public engagement, emphasizing sectors that call for strategic approaches and reforms in the coming years.
We extend our gratitude to the organizers for the opportunity to present Serbia’s legal system and contribute to the academic discussion on one of the region’s most important energy transition topics.
The full paper by our colleagues is expected to be published in the Academy’s regular publications in early 2026.
